Young’s Double Chocolate Stout/Framboise

Recently I was with some friends at the Yardhouse, a nationwide chain of restaurants that serves a wide variety of great beers on tap, While reviewing their beer menu I found a section of blended beers. Always one to try something new I saw that they had a Young’s Double Chocolate Stout and Framboise Blend, Having had and enjoyed both beers in the past I decided to give this blend a shot.

The first thing I noticed when the beer was delivered was that the head had a nice red tint to it from the Framboise. aside from that the beer very much looks like a Young’s chocolate stout with its beautiful cascading effect and about 2 fingers of head.  The smell bore a strong raspberry aroma followed by the dark dry chocolate aroma the Stout brings to the blend.

I was pleased with the initial taste which has as strong raspberry zing to it from the framboise. The best way to describe the beer would be to compare it to that of a Raspberry chocolate bar as it has a strong sweet raspberry sweet taste initially and is filled out with a dark rich and dry chocolate taste that mellows out the beer. Definitely a great desert beer!

I always like to get other peoples opinions so I had two girls and another guy try the blend and they all agreed that it was a great tasting beer they they would all try again. a Great beer for both guys and girls.

I went home and wanted to make my own Framboise/Young’s and after some experimenting I found that about 75% Young’s and 25% Framboise is a good mix to try and match the brew that the Yard house presents.

I strongly recommend trying this beer next time your out at the Yardhouse or if your at a Beer store pick up a bottle of Framboise and Young’s and do some experimenting!
