Rick, This is Sean from GD (we met in passing a couple of times while you were here, Dan knows me as well)

Wanted to say, if you can find a bottle of the Dogfishhead worldwide stout right now that should be on your list to review. I have seen it at Whole Foods and Bevmo, an amazing beer.

I actually just started brewing myself, but I still pick up a bunch of craft beers. Currently have been on a Belgium kick and will be hosting a beer tasting dinner in the next few weeks, I look forwarding to going back and reading more on the site!

Hi guys. This is Zak Davis from Shmaltz Brewing Company, the makers of the Coney Island Craft Lagers. Just wanted to stop in and say thanks so much for the writeup on the Freaktoberfest. Even though some of the beer rating website list it as an Oktoberfest, it’s actually not an Oktoberfest style at all (as you guys noticed). Since most of our beers hybridize multiple styles, their usually miscategorized on those websites. This year, we brewed the beer with an Oktoberfest-style malt bill, but an IPA-style hop bill, which accounts for the exaggerated hop presence. Because we release this beer more for the Halloween season than for Oktoberfest, we’ve found an organic zombie farmer in Northern California that supplies us with the zombie blood to achieve the demonic color. It’s easy for the color to throw off people’s mental perception of the taste, but once you get past that quality, we think that Freaktoberfest is a deliciously drinkable brew. I think the Porter smelled like a strong Porter. I expected to taste the alcohol with how it smelled. Overall I didn’t get a very dark burnt smell which I hoped for but it had more of an average porter smell. Usually Imperial Porters are strong or potent all the way around but it didn’t have quite what I was expecting. It had great head as you can tell from the pictures and the lacing was superb. The color was a very dark brown. The taste was a little alcoholish and slightly more sour than I expected. I can pick up hints of coffee and chocolate maybe even slight hints of fruit like Raspberry. I really expected more but overall this was still delicous. It’s hard to compete after all the different beers we’ve tried… You will have to step up your game!

Note the two glasses? One for me! This beer was great and I was very surprised by the amount of chocolate flavor the ale had. The beer had a buttery smell to me, I think the hints of white chocolate… Very delicious, I would definitely drink this beer again!

I could smell the alcohol which I didn’t really like or it would have 5 starts for Smell. I thought the appearance was pretty average overall but thought it had excellent mouthfeel and was very drinkable!

I tried just a bit of the porter while enjoying one of the delicious New York strips and I agree that the two are a great paring. Washing a piece of steak down with this delicious sweet porter the flavor was nice and consistent from the steak to porter and both complimented each other very well.

This beer is a very smooth drink, solid taste. not too strong, not too weak. Great in a bottle or glass. This is a great accompaniment with a steak dinner or brats off the grill. I totally agree with the opinion of local brewery! I will be drinking this again in the future.
